Last month we shared a benchmark on some of the leading challenger banks worldwide. We highlighted their revenue and profitability have generally not yet matched expectations. This time we have performed another benchmark.
Our sample is a mixture of players, such OakNorth, Tinkoff, and WeBank. However, they share one common thing: they are all profitable.
Our benchmark provides us some interesting learnings for success. Their core services are profitable, whether it’s payments, lending or something else. They also tend to be older and also some of the larger players. At the same time, our sample also differs in various important aspects, with a variety of business models, product portfolios and customer segments. This demonstrates that there is not one single road to success.
